First responders are core to a community's resilience after natural disasters, and access to reliable energy is critical for their operations.

Yet due to increasingly severe weather events made worse by global warming, more and more communities face the risk of losing power for extended periods of time. Extreme weather can directly damage the electrical grid and make power companies turn off electricity to the grid to avoid wildfires, leading to a critical need of backup generators which are currently fueled with diesel or natural gas.

According to the federal government, solar coupled with battery backup systems are an alternative, cost-effective, proven solution that can increase the resilience of communities. Especially in times of community-wide disasters, increasing the energy independence of our firefighters with this renewable energy solution is crucial to helping these brave men and women best serve our communities.

I urge you to support "solar strong" legislation that would put solar and battery backup on every fire station in the nation.
